Ending Female Genital Mutilation (EndFGM)

Breaking the Silence: Empowering Survivors to End FGM

The program was aimed at empowering survivors, creating a safe space for survivors of FGM through mentorship, educating communities, and allowing the survivors to lead in community engagement. The purpose of this program is to equip survivors of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) with the skills necessary to lead the survivor-led movement against FGM.

The program targeted survivors of FGM in Amagu Unuphu Community, Ebonyi state, who underwent the procedure and have survived the associated trauma, pain, and problems. It also included community stakeholders like the CWO (Catholic Women Association) of the Immaculate Parish at Amagu Unuphu Community, Ebonyi state.

The PY4H Team working to end FGM in Ekiti State

CHESIDS is a current grantee of The Girl Generation (TGG); a global collective with a shared vision to #EndFGM in one generation.

In this partnership with TGG, CHESIDS is working to increase youth leadership in the collective effort to end FGM by stimulating more constructive intergenerational FGM-themed conversations, improving the knowledge and skills of targeted youths to correctly advocate and drive informed action against FGM, and implementing youth driven FGM-themed events in four communities in Ido Osi Local Government Area (LGA) of Ekiti State in south-west Nigeria.

CHESIDS approaches Health as a development Issue. One of its strategies is Partnering with Youths for Health (PY4H). The PY4H initiative deploys a structured approach to identify, equip, mentor, assist and fund young people to implement development projects in targeted communities.

Through PY4H, CHESIDS builds and nurtures a pipeline of young social change agents committed and willing to support a range of causes.

In this intervention in Ido Osi LGA, CHESIDS trained and equipped 6 youths to be at the forefront of an End FGM campaign in 4 communities- Osi, Usi, Igbole and Ifisin communities.
