The Next Hundred Public Health Stewards (TNH-PHS) program is a flagship initiative by Centre for Health Systems Support and Initiatives for Development (CHESIDS), aimed at increasing the role of youth in health and development by equipping young public health enthusiasts with the knowledge and skills relevant in public health practice. The program seeks to fill the learning gap by championing leadership and competence building through a deliberate mentorship program where young professionals undergo an integrative public health learning experience.
We are happy to announce that the application for Cohort 9 of the program is open.
Benefits of the Program

This project was executed by CHESIDS in collaboration with WOHEPI; her Benue-based partner NGO, through The Next Hundred young girls receiving HPV vaccine”, an initiative aimed at supporting young girls to be vaccinated against Human Papillomavirus.
This initiative is in line with the WHO 90-70-90 Strategy of eliminating cervical cancer, which proposes that by 2030, 90% of girls below 15 years would be fully vaccinated against HPV.

The Next Hundred Public Health Stewards training started in September 2021. So far, we have trained 5 cohorts of stewards, giving rise to the need to have an Alumni network. The maiden edition of The Next Hundred Public Health Stewards Alumni reunion took place on the 2nd-3rd December 2022. This event brought together all the past stewards, creating opportunities for networking and sharing ideas among the stewards.
Highlights of the event were the impactful lectures delivered by keynote speakers as well as the brainstorming sessions among the stewards on the public health projects to be executed in collaboration with CHESIDS.
Some National Youth Service Corps members from the National Agency for the control of AIDS (NACA) were invited to the event to gain insights about the objectives of CHESIDS and the TNH initiative. According to them, it was an eye-opening experience, which exposed them to various career opportunities in the public health space.
